What every guide includes

Each guide opens by explaining what is really happening in the pattern, then describes the research behind it in plain words, with the researchers named. It continues with scripts for the moments that tend to go wrong, one worksheet, one labeled composite example and a one-page cheat sheet. Everything comes in one PDF that reads well on a screen and prints clean at home, and each guide takes about twenty minutes to read.

The clinician behind Couples Conversations

Couples Conversations is the work of Dr. Ari Sytner, PhD, LCSW, a Certified Gottman Therapist, clinical professor at Yeshiva University’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work, and author of the Couples Conversations™ book series. For many years he has worked with couples in therapy, and the Field Guides were created to answer a question that often follows a helpful article: “Okay, but what do I actually say?”

Each guide names the research it draws on and stays within what that research supports. The scripts are written in the plain, everyday words couples use with each other, so they feel natural to say. The Toolkit keeps all eight guides together in one place, so the right one is easy to find on the day you need it.

One important note: This program is not in place of therapy or clinical treatment or diagnosis, but for education. Many relationships struggle with various issues; this is normal. However, they should always feel safe. If there are any mental health concerns, or concerns for safety, or if the relationship feels dangerous in any way, please seek professional support rather than continuing in this program. When in doubt, it is best to consult with a proper therapist.
